Ten repeated signals may still be one source.

A media archive needs source relationships as much as searchable text.

Count relationships before volume

A statement can travel from a press release into an article, a broadcast clip and several social posts. A monitoring dashboard may count each appearance, even though none adds independent support. Store the original source and the chain of reuse. Distinguish direct observation, institutional claims and independent reporting. The question is not only how widely a statement traveled; it is whether a new account adds knowledge, challenges the claim or merely repeats it. This distinction changes what an editorial team can responsibly conclude.

Preserve the editorial question

An archive that stores only files loses the decision they informed. Attach the question under review, relevant time window, verification status and unresolved contradictions. When evidence changes, the next editor should see why the earlier interpretation was reasonable and where it no longer applies. This is institutional memory rather than storage capacity. It also makes correction more specific: identify the statement, the new source, the changed interpretation and the audience that needs the correction.

Use retrieval without transferring authority

AI can help retrieve related sources or group repeated statements when volume makes manual reading difficult. Test whether it preserves source lineage and retrieves conflicting evidence, rather than producing a persuasive summary from repetition. An editor reviews the interpretation and owns publication. Evaluate a small set of known source chains before widening the workflow. Accuracy, correction traceability and useful retrieval are more relevant than the number of generated summaries. Retain a route for cases the system cannot resolve.
